SPEAKERS 2018

GIOVANNI BOCCIA ARTIERI (Italy)

Sociologist, essayist, professor of communication sciences
Nov 10th – The image in today’s society
The image is more and more central in our society. Particularly, social media have proclaimed the victory of the image (both photographic and video) over the text. How does this affect our way to express ourselves and communicate? How does this impact on our society? Giovanni Boccia Artieri has studied this phenomenon for years and he is back at AE Academy after further studies on this topic, which have resulted in his last book “Fenomenologia dei social network” (Phenomenology of social networks).

Nov 10th – The “Fashion” value of photography
Vogue is the most trendy magazine in the world in terms of style and fashion. Style and fashion that actually represent the highest evolution of the image; the needs and desires of the buyers materialize in front of the images proposed by the magazine. This happens all around the world. Vogue Photo Editor will reveal to the present photographers, and just to them, the secrets to create successful images, in the style of the most prestigious world’s magazine.

SETTIMIO BENEDUSI (Italy)

Professional photographer, journalist, publicist and photography teacher
Nov 10th – The role of photography critique
“Photography makes sense if it’s helpful, if it’s useful. It is a way to discover the world. If photography is used as a medium it’s ok, otherwise it’s a waste of time, both for those who do it and those who see it”. An interview done in 2015 by Enrico Ratto defines Settimio’s vision as very critical of the usefulness of photography, due to the widespread lack of photographic culture, a culture that is essential for creating beautiful photographs. It is also true, according to Benedusi, that photography is meritocratic, rewarding only the photographers who can truly “communicate” through their work whether the scene is original or trivial.

SAL CINCOTTA (Usa)

Award-winning wedding and portrait photographer
Nov 10th – Mastering the business of photography
Sal is an award-winning photographer and a successful businessman; he’s one of the most sought-after consultants in the field, helping studios and photographers take their businesses to the next level. In 2007, his gross sales were less than $50k. Today Salvatore Cincotta Photography represents a brand valued at over a million dollars. His studio focuses on primarily weddings, high school seniors and stylized portraits, and he also organizes huge photography events for professional photographers from around the world!
